Kate is very curious about Hope, these shots were taken last Tuesday. Kate was warming up to her but afraid to 'approach' from the front! So every time she touched her or tried to hug her, it would be from behind!!

Hope had her first pediatrician appointment. She was 21lbs 14oz and 30". At 12 months Kate was 23lbs and 8 oz and 30". So, so far Hope is keeping up quite well with her big sister! Developmentally of course Hope is a bit behind. She can not sit up while laying on her back, can't pull herself up to standing, let alone cruise the furniture. She even occasionally falls backwards when sitting up, so we always make sure if we aren't sitting with her that there is a pillow behind her.

Tomorrow we are expecting a visit from a physical therapist from the school district to evaluate her and hopefully will recommend exercises we can work with her or possibly even physical therapy. At this point we don't have any concerns that Hope won't overcome her delays, we just want to give her the opportunity to progress as quickly as possible.

So keep us in your prayers that we do the best things for our sweet girl!

As a birthmom myself in a very great open adoption, I have to ask. Was your birthmom made aware that you planned to adopt again so soon after the birth of her baby?

Dear Anonymous,

Thank you for commenting and your concern as a birth mother. I can respect your question and can see why you would be concerned.

As an adoptive mom I can promise you that our decision to adopt two girls close in age was very desired but only divined by God. If you have been a follower for a while you will know that we have waited years for Hope and our decision to adopt while waiting was so that she not grow up without that joy of a sibling as our son did. If we had adopted Hope first we fully planned to adopt again soon after.

In the end it was only by the grace of God that put these our children in our hearts and home and made them siblings.

If your concern is that they were adopted too close together, Kate was 16 months old when Hope came home, so in any family it is not unusual that a 'new baby' could come in the home in that time frame.

If you are concerned that they are too close in age? That I can understand. Honestly? I am thrilled that they are 'virtual twins' and am excited to watch them go through school together and enjoy their childhood without being separated, like twins. They will both journey together and start new beginnings as sisters, Kindergarten, Brownies, Jr. High etc..

We did not choose when any of our three children came to us... God did and if He's okay with it... I am too!

As far as Kate's birth mother goes I don't feel comfortable discussing her here. I would be very happy to discuss this with you offline. E-mail me if you would like me to share more.

Your child and adoptive family are very blessed to have you in their life. Blessings on you all.
